As someone self immersed in a combo of tech blogs, biz books, and great Twitter streams, this seems so self evident. Yea, B2B is a different animal and the same principles may apply but in a very different manifestation. Not free chicken.

Re: What a Local Chinese Restaurant Taught Me About Marketing a Product and a Brand!

This is a really great post and is universally applicable in B2C marketing.

This plays out slightly differently in B2B, and is slightly less applicable in high-cost businesses. MailChimp for example, gives out free email management for the first 12,000 subscribers, but if I'm starting at 20k subscribers they aren't going to give me much for free - because it would eat away at their business model. At the same time, service business are not likely to allow a second sample due to the relative high cost of each engagement.

But for all those B2C marketers, this is a lesson that cannot be repeated enough.

Re: What a Local Chinese Restaurant Taught Me About Marketing a Product and a Brand!

thanks Nikki. :)

Re: What a Local Chinese Restaurant Taught Me About Marketing a Product and a Brand!

A good reminder of what we know inside but sometime get distracted from. I would add to that that the time and effort spent trying to quantify everything is also a bit of waste. If you spent your whole time at dinner counting calories and your meal expenditures you would miss out on some of the value of the meal. I'm not saying throw budgets to the wind, just don't spend too much time obsessing over ROI. Better to be asking ourselves what our customers want and giving it to them. What is true for product, is true for marketing. Great post!

Re: What a Local Chinese Restaurant Taught Me About Marketing a Product and a Brand!

Thanks man.

Re: What a Local Chinese Restaurant Taught Me About Marketing a Product and a Brand!

May be the best GaryVee clip of all time. But with a company like Microsoft, they have a huge opportunity coming. About 25 to 30% of mobile users use smart phones. When more and more users make that transition what will they be looking for. Something that is easy to learn, because the tech junkies are already in the market. They've just released a new OS that is built to easily transition between the PC & phone. And those I know who have a Windows phone love it. I think they've learned some lessons and are definitely heading in a smarter direction again.

Re: Stop Saying it’s Too Late for BlackBerry and Microsoft.
But, both Google and Facebook created a new model that took their market by storm by reshaping it from A to Z.

Apple did the same thing while introducing the iPhone and later echosystem.

There's not a single chance copy-cats can catch up in value.

The entry barriers installed by Apple/Google in the mobile spectrum are now too high. Even the chinese know it: if you can't create a market, you're doomed to compete with pricing. And here, both Blackberry & Microsoft are just finacially walking deads. ;)

You can check my own rant on why Blackberry sucks here :http://www.tekosaur.com/7484/s...

Re: Stop Saying it’s Too Late for BlackBerry and Microsoft. Only time will tell if BB10/WP8 will succeed or not. But some people believe these platforms are the most future proof in terms of technology (http://www.appesque.com/why-ap.... And after using these devices i believe this is true. Only argument is apps. most of them are there and for the ones that arent still on board, well with a browser as good as BB10 browser i dont think one needs apps for lot of services.

Re: Hey Tech Bloggers, It Might Be Time for a Reality Check.
